ClubHotel Riu Funana

“Great Value For Money”

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2016

This hotel along with its mirror image the Funana (Which you will have access to all of the facilities there) is a great all inclusive resort and great value for money.

Leading with the negatives:

-Pool isn’t heated – so it was a bit too much on the cold side in the water.
-Landscaping still under construction leading to a lot of dust and sand being airborne when wind picks up a lot.
-Specialty restaurants are essentially a buffet with some extra table waiting – not worth the fuss of reserving when the standard buffets do the same job.

Now on with the positives:

-Room:
We had a standard double room on the ground floor. It had a small terrace, double bed, one pillow each, TV, Safe, Hiss & Hers sink, separate toilet and shower and Air Conditioning. The room was clean on arrival and housekeeping visited daily.
We were in block 9 which was deeper within the resort on the outskirts, so was quiet and a relative equal distance from both coastal and inland parts of the resort.

-Pool Section:
The pool section consisted of a large standard pool, a slightly smaller pool which contained whirlpool elements. There was also a small pool bar with a swim up section and a seating area. Toilets and a restaurant / snack bar were also next to the pool giving easy access. This is the same on the Funana side, so if one side if “full” you can try the other side.

-Beach:
The Entrance to the beach is on the Funana side (As the beach on the Garopa side is protected due to a nesting area for turtles!) as soon as you leave the gates you will be hassled by local tour operators that in most cases are happy to accept a no, others not so much. (I recommend Luis and Jorge – 25 Euro for a whole day 4×4 trip that contains far more than the TUI endorsed version at half the price)
The beach has a beach bar (included in your all inclusive) sun beds, water sports shops (Included in your all inclusive) diving shop (Extra cost) and beach activity area (all inclusive). The sand is soft and warm, but beware when setting up your sun loungers – keep in mind the wind direction or you may end up covered in airbourne sand!
The sea is relatively cool but for our stay was very very rough and may not be suitable to swim in.

-Drinks:
All in there are 7 bars in the resort open at various times of day. Standard drink selection for an all inclusive from cocktails to beer to soft drinks to liqueurs to coffee.
Unlike some resorts the cocktails are made fresh and not out a machine.

-Food:
What an outstanding selection! Two buffet restaurants, two snack bars and 4 specialty restaurants. The buffet selection for breakfast lunch and dinner would satisfy anybody pallets and the snack bars had a great selection of hot and cold food.

Room Tip: Block 9 Is between the Pool / Beach & and Lobby / Bars. Away from the noise and best location to…
